Transurethral electroresection of the prostate is a low-traumatic surgical operation used to eliminate benign prostate tumors. The method is recognized as the "gold standard" in the treatment of prostate adenoma. Transurethral electroresection (TUR) of prostate adenoma is an endoscopic operation, during which benign hyperplasia is removed using a high frequency loop electrode.
Adenoma of the prostate (benign prostatic hyperplasia) is a benign tumor of the prostate gland. The risk of the disease increases after age 50. Transurethral resection (TUR) of prostate adenoma is an endoscopic operation during which benign hyperplasia is removed using a high frequency loop electrode.
Surgical removal of prostate adenoma is carried out with the development of complications from the genitourinary system. The reasons for the use of a radical method of treatment are the following conditions: • presence of kidney stones;
• urinary retention;
• renal failure;
• hematuria (excretion of blood in the urine);
• chronic infectious and inflammatory diseases of the urinary tract.
The possibility of transurethral removal of the gland depends on the stage of development of the disease and is determined taking into account the individual characteristics of the patient.
Transurethral resection of the prostate adenoma takes about 60 minutes. The intervention is performed under general or epidural anesthesia. For anesthesia, sparing drugs are selected that reliably block pain impulses, but at the same time gently affect the body.
After the development of the action of anesthesia, the doctor conducts an antiseptic treatment of the genitals and introduces a resectoscope into the urethral canal.
It is a slim device equipped with a video camera and a manipulation loop. The device allows the surgeon to see the pathologically altered tissues, remove them using a loop. At the same time, the bladder is washed and the damaged vessels are coagulated. At the end of the operation, the resectoscope is removed and a catheter is inserted into the urethra to flush the bladder.
Comprehensive preoperative diagnostics includes 3 stages:
• laboratory - the patient is tested for blood, urine, smears from the genital tract;
• instrumental - a man undergoes ultrasound of the pelvic organs, ECG, chest x-ray;
• advisory - the patient visits a cardiologist, therapist, anesthesiologist.
Based on the results of the examination, the urologist assesses the possibility of surgical treatment and selects the optimal date for the intervention. The doctor plans the course of manipulations, makes recommendations regarding drug preparation. On the eve of the operation, a cleansing enema is performed and the hair in the groin is shaved off.
