The cause of otitis media

The inflammatory process at the level of the middle ear is most often secondary. This means that, initially, the infection enters the tympanum from other departments communicating with it. Secretory otitis media occurs when a fluid formed as a result of a cold or an allergic reaction penetrates the middle ear through the Eustachian tube.

Depending on the location of the pathological process, three forms of otitis media are distinguished:

• Internal;

• outdoor;

• Otitis media;

The two main causes of otitis media are infection and the spread of inflammation from the nasopharynx to the middle ear, as well as ear injuries. Also, the disease can occur due to:

• Injuries to the skin of the external auditory meatus;

• After getting contaminated water;

• In case of infectious diseases, kidney diseases, diabetes mellitus, hypothermia.

Symptoms of otitis media

First of all, otitis media and its symptoms will depend on the form and location of the inflammatory process. The general picture of acute otitis media of the middle ear and its symptoms can be characterized by the following symptoms:

• Ear pain is sharp, severe, and sometimes unbearable.

• Hearing loss, tinnitus;

• Increased temperature;

After 1-3 days from the onset of the disease, a gap in the tympanic membrane is formed, suppuration begins. In this period, the temperature drops, the pain decreases, the general condition improves.

With an unfavorable development of the disease, pus can erupt not outside, but inside the cranial cavity, provoking the development of brain abscess, meningitis and other dangerous diseases.

Otitis mediaц

First of all, the local treatment of the disease depends on its form. Treatment of otitis media should be immediate, in view of the danger of serious consequences: the spread of the disease into the space of the skull or inner ear, which can lead to complete hearing loss.

If the tympanic cavity does not drain independently during the first three days, a section of the tympanic membrane is shown.

In general, the treatment regimen for otitis media at home consists of the following components:

• Bed rest;

• Nasoconstrictors for the nose;

• Antimicrobial agents;

• painkillers;

• Antibacterial agents;

• Physiotherapeutic treatment;

• Vitamins.

It is worth noting that the treatment of otitis media at home should be carried out only with the permission of the otolaryngologist. Do not self-medicate. In those cases when conservative methods do not help, they resort to surgery.
