Treatment of carbuncle
Carbuncle is an acute inflammatory purulent-necrotic process in the skin, which involves several hair follicles, sebaceous glands and their surrounding subcutaneous tissue, characterized by the formation of extensive abscesses.
Causes of carbuncle - getting pyogenic microbes, in particular - aureus and other types of staphylococcus aureus, streptococci, Escherichia coli, non-clostridial anaerobes, proteus and others under the top layer of the skin.
Carbuncle Symptoms
The carbuncle appears as a small inflammatory nodule with a superficial abscess that rapidly increases in size. Often, sharp arching pains disturb the affected area. The skin in this area is tense, edematous, with a purple tint.
After some time, the skin above the carbuncle breaks in several places, several holes (“sieve”) are formed, from which thick greenish-gray pus is released; dead tissue is visible in the holes. Separate holes merge, forming a large defect in the skin, through which a lot of pus flows out and dead tissues are rejected.
Body temperature rises to 40°C. There is intoxication (nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, severe headache, insomnia, occasionally delirium and unconsciousness).
With large sizes, as well as with the location of the carbuncle on the face, the general phenomena are especially pronounced, but quickly subside when pus begins to flow and dead tissues are rejected. After cleansing, the wound heals.
