Essence of gallstones. The gallbladder is a small, pear-shaped organ located below the liver, on the upper right side of the abdomen. The main function of the gallbladder is to concentrate and store bile, and then, at the appropriate time, to release it through the bile ducts into the intestines to aid the process of digestion.
Cause of gallstone disease. According to the observations of specialists from the Ichilov (Sourasky) hospital, gallstones are formed as a result of several factors that occur in the human body:
Chemical processes in the liver
Overweight
Gallbladder motility disorder
Heredity
Improper nutrition, etc.
Symptoms of gallstone disease. The presence of gallstones in most cases resolves without symptoms. In such cases, there is no need for treatment. However, if gallstones change their location, they can cause blockage of the flow of bile and complications such as cholecystitis and jaundice may occur. The presence of gallstones is usually manifested by acute pain in the right upper abdomen, back pain, right shoulder blade or chest. Gallstones can cause nausea and vomiting.
